Laptop surfing thru 3G

At last my 3G phone worked!! After weeks of calling *888 (smart service center) and SMSing SET 3G N70 to 214 to activate SMART 3G. At least now, I can surf the net without thinking of Wi-FI/Weroam connections. Right now speed is at 115Kbps, not bad huh!! I just hooked up the phone to my laptop, plugged in the 3G and used a Nokia software (One touch access wizard) to connect to the phone and dialed the Internet via the software. In a minute or two, I was connected to the Internet. First I checked YM messenger and Skype. It loaded and I'm on. I'm almost 1.5 hr connected without interference. Really cool!!!!
Due to Globe's coverage limitation, I preferred Smart 3G. Smart 3G coverage is phil-wide. Lots of things we can do with 3G. It's just P10/30mins but it’s going to be expensive when they launch it commercially. But i guess things will pick up, sa Pinas pa di ba?

I promised to myself to udpate my blog on Holy Week but was too busy then that I couldn’t get a chance to check on it. So I guess I’ll have a long list this time…

PREPARATION
It was a month and half preparation for my Bangkok travel. The initial plan was to have Maxene with me on the trip too but there’s a lot of documentation needed for her to be able to get there. There’s this Parental Travel Permit from DSWD, a requirement for minors below 18 years old accompanied by one parent or person exercising parental authority. Also there’s this Tax Exemption requirement that you need to secure from DOT. We already had all the requirements except for the Consent coming from Phil Embassy at Bangkok that requires working permit but sad to say, my hubby is still in the progress of getting his permit. That’s the reason why Maxene didn’t have the chance to see Thailand.

My hubby requested to take a 2 week leave, I was hesitant at first because 2 weeks is too long for a semiconductor company and I’m afraid it’ll not be granted. I personally took the courage to ask for a 2 week leave, a month before the scheduled flight, and luckily it was granted!!! Yahoo!!! But of course with the condition of getting projects on track before my trip. Also I have to log from time to time to check emails/urgent issues that may arise. Nevertheless, I’ll have a two-week vacation! Yippee!

The preparation went well, I asked my Kuya to take care of our car and that also means he’ll drive me from Cavite to airport on my departure and fetch me as well on my arrival. Initially my hubby booked me at KU (Kuwait Airlines), but ‘twas late when I found out I was on the waiting list. Grrr!! I was informed by the agency that April was the peak season for Bangkok trip. So I asked our company’s travel agency to book me at PAL on my preferred dates – Apr 8 until Apr 23. PAL Airfare was much expensive though compared to KU. Reviews on KU airlines mentioned that KU has the cheapest fare but have lots of negative comments and complaints about the services and facilities of their planes, also smoking is allowed during the flight. I’m having second thoughts then when I read the KU reviews and preferred PAL, NW, JAL, AA, Cathay planes instead, which I had on my previous flights.

Getting ready… 2-wk leaves filed, ticket booked… now let’s see my list of ‘pabili’ … Boneless bangus, rellenong bangus, century tuna, Libby’s sausage, spaghetti sauce - - - hmmm looks like my hubby misses these foods so much! And am wondering if there aren’t any tuna, sausages, or spag sauces in Thailand and he explained that the taste is different and his taste buds don’t like it. He also asked for ‘kakanin’ but I’m afraid it’ll be spoiled so I deleted it on the list. Now am ready to go! Am too excited to see my hubby, this is the longest time we we’re separated by distance so we miss each other so much! And and and… it’s really a good timing since we’re planning to have our second baby… he he he…

Thailand, here I come!!!
SAWATDEE – KAH!! (greetings) KAPKUM MA KAP!! (thank you) The famous words you can hear wherever you go in Thailand. Here are the places we went to: (pictures will be posted soon....that's a promise!)

The Mall – this is the name of the mall where my hubby and Filipino friends’ favorite “tambayan” every weekend, right after attending mass, or anytime someone is forced to treat them dinner.

Suan Luang Rama IX Park – Suan Luang Rama XI was constructed in commemoration of the King's 5th Cycle Birthday Anniversary in 1987. This is the first park we visited. Which is really “super luwang” a 80-hectare park, no means of transpo to explore the park but walking, we’re like taking our sauna bath because it’s really hot and we’re sweating so terribly. Afterwhich we had our foot massage to pamper our feet from the long walk.

Srinikarindra Ville – Microchip’s rented serviced apartments for Filipino Expats, my hubby’s place.

Koh Samet Beach – approximately 3.5 hrs away from Bangkok. This became a tourist spot when a tsunami annihilated the famous Phuket Beach. We stayed there for 2 days, 1 night. We enjoyed swimming on our first day, never mind getting sunburns- it’s summer anyway! We had dinner along the beach, watched a fire show then enjoyed performance of a Filipino band (sila lang ata pinoy na nakita ko dun). On the next day, I had my foot spa – massage and scrub – so relaxing, doing it along the beach. Now time to go back Bangkok again, back to the Pier station, we got wet, we almost forgot it’s Songkran Festival which is a traditional thai new year where water throwing among the people in a spirit of fun and goodwill is the main activity of the festival.

Grand Palace – This is a 'must see' for all visitors to Bangkok. The Grand Palace complex, which includes the Temple of the Emerald Buddha (Wat Phra Keow) is unquestionably one of the wonders of the world today. Within its enormous grounds is the most exotic Buddhist temple and at the heart of the temple itself is a fabulous Buddha image, carved from one piece of Jade, which is the holiest and most revered of religious objects in Thailand today. Nearby is the Grand Palace, once the official home for the Kings of Siam - built in traditional Thai architecture mixed with European designs.

Chao Phraya River – After grand palace visit, we’re planning to go and see the floating market known for thailand. Incidentally, one of the guards helped us and even guided us going there. We had a motor boat sail on the Chao Phya River and see the canals (klongs), see the serene family homes and temples along the water-ways which have given the city of Thonburi the name, "Venice of the East". Afterwards a stop at the Temple of Dawn (Wat Arun) then back to the main station.

Siam Paragon – the best mall I ever seen in Thailand. Top name brands are present, along with a first-class hotel, serviced apartments, cinemas, and restaurants. Inside the Siam Paragon is the Siam Ocean world with entrance fee 450 Bhat… am not amazed though, sayang ang entrance fee (it’s not worth it).

Driving 101

Yes, I'm driving now. I got my non-professional driver's license last Dec. 2005 and just started driving on my own last Jan 29, 2006. I'm kinda nervous on my first try, with 30KPH speed (snail speed) from our apt to eagle ridge, all the way from manggahan to tagaytay. Whew, it was exciting and tiring but worth a try. From now on, I'll be driving our car coz my driver left me for a purpose - that is for me to learn how to drive! hehe just kidding...

Jang-geum Fever

Have heard or watched Jewel in the Palace koreanovela lately? Hmmm… you must be a fan of Jang-geum then. GMA had a good choice of the TV series, it surely is a hit in their TV rating. Everybody watches it even if it’s aired late 9:00 or 10:00 in the evening. I do love the story, it’s the successful rise of a female, which is rarely covered in historical genre, and the elements of traditional food and medicine. This is a true story, I cannot wait for the next episodes to be aired so I searched for the whole story in the web and successfully found one and read it in a week. You can buy pirated DVD copies and I'm sure you'll like the story too!

Year of the Red Fire Dog

It's 2006! The Chinese calendar dubs 2006 as the Year of Red Fire Dog. Though I'm not sure really what that really means since I'm no big fan of astrology, I hear it has something to do with financial prosperity. There are also lots of lucky items aired that you need to buy for the same reason. Whatever the reason is, I think 2006 is starting off nicely. Hopefully!

For no reason, I don't know if it's a luck too to have a dog this year. My thotsy bought a pittbull named "Choi" right after xmas. I'm not really a dog lover though. Here she is.

Also, my brother bought a rotweiller breed. Hmmm, I think I'll be nicer to dogs this year. He just bought a female rotweiller recently to pair his male rotweiller "Hardie".

I've been out for a while preparing for the long Christmas vacation and that means all projects closed by workweek 51. hehe Thank God I have two talented engineers who made their projects on time, at least now we can enjoy the Christmas Holidays without thinking projects to complete next year. Aside from the projects that made me busy for the previous weeks, there were lots of occasions we attended too.

Spirit of xmas is fast approaching… I can now feel the cold breeze and xmas lights at night. Also Christmas décors are all over malls and stores so we decided to buy decors to fully enjoy the season. First we thought of christmas tree but it won't be safe for Maxene, she will just pull every strings of it and by xmas eve it would be a total wreck, so we opt to buy hanging decors instead. At first, I was thinking to have a ready made wreath but the cost forbid me coz it ranges from P1000 to P3000 each (i'm getting conscoius on prices this time, thanks to mr. colayco's book, which i think i mentioned the book on my previous posts). We just bought raw materials which costs us less than P500 only.

Church Visit...

Yesterday, instead of attending mass at La Salette Church, Silang we shifted our route to Caleruega Transfiguration Chapel. This place is such a wonderful site - with its breezy and serene atmosphere, coming back to this place won't be a second thought. Since this was the first time we brought Maxene with us, we stayed there for a while and let her enjoy the place... then attended their Sunday mass at 11-12noon afterwhich we ate lunch at RSM, Tagaytay.

Maxene was amazed with the scent coming from the potpourri bowl..

... was the day thotsy and i were united and blessed as one.

... Last year, we celebrated our first wedding anniversary with our families. We went to Puerto del Sol (Bolinao, Pangasinan) but t'was already fully booked so we ended staying at Paradise Resort (just a block away from PDS) for overnight. On our way home, we dropped by Maxine By the Sea Restaurant for our lunch but then they decided to go to 100 Islands and so we did...

.... On our second anniversary, we celebrated it together with my sister's wedding! What a date! hehe Yes, my eldest sister Lynette finally got married last Sunday with Kuya Rouel. Kala namin magmamatandang dalaga ito eh... hehe Wedding ceremony was held at Our Lady of Holy Rosary Church, Licab, Nueva Ecija and reception followed at Cristina's Resort. Our daughter was one of her flower girls - she's so cute in her little aqua blue gown...

i just read a book "Wealth is within your reach.." by a filipino (forgot his name), it's a nice book, a best seller now actually. my thotsy bought it, surprisingly he intended to buy it for me. hihi The author actually sites examples of sad and succesful stories of rich and poor people, suggests some ideas how to handle savings and investments. you may want to have a copy of it too!

Sept 19… yes it’s my birthday! Thank God for another fulfilled year of my life with full of happiness and bit of spices. I can still recall celebrating my bday with ate daren for 3 years in college(started since we found we were bday mate), where Ate Daren and I go to church (SLU chapel) early in the morning (6am) then have breakfast at SLU canteen. It was a silent and simple celebration but within our hearts we are partying and shouting for joy!

To my bday mate – happy bday! May we always stay happy, blessed, strong and proud mothers and wives! Always keep in touch…. Mwah!

Today, the whole CML employees are celebrating my bday… err … CML’s 9th anniversary I mean. Yes what a coincidence, but I’m thankful though coz I don’t need to treat everyone for my bday... hehehe there’s an entertainment program @lunch, then a free snack @4PM and a mass @ 2:30PM. Whew what a relief... hehe! But we had a simple celebration last night with my thotsy and friends, we forgot to capture photos since everybody was busy eating, drinking, watching TV and laughing on my old photo albums at the same time...

To my family, relatives and friends - thank you for your warm and lovely greetings! I just wish i could celebrate my bday with all of you! You made my day complete! Thanks again!

chelle's bday celebration at island songs, last sept 10 at 8pm til 3am.....

chelle is my teamlead mate in our group(datacom-specialty memories). she's taking care of new products + yield improvements and i'm taking care of new products + aoql/ rma/broken parts. we often tease/call her "CLAW-DIN" coz one time she looked like claudine baretto... but she doesn't want to call her that way.

we had fun .... ate a lot of foods, drank a couple of drinks(vodka ice,SMB ligt,strong ice,cali,tequila,bottled water), and sang til dawn. we actually had a suprise for chelle but the lady attendant accidentally revealed it to the group... grrrr! anyhow, it was great and we enjoyed the night .

college days… yes those were the days of skipping classes, review for quizzes and exams, three to four hours writing of lab reports(whew..), barkada gimmicks, courting and yeah meeting the right person for you… I just remembered how my thotsy and I get to know each other, yes it was a hard-to-get story and with a bed of roses … I finally answered yes! how could I forget that day… that was 12th day of september 1996 when I finally said yes to my thotsy!

To my only thotsy, I love you so much… I’ll always be a loving wife and a friend for you…
